Live Transcribe captures the audio around you and turns it into live captions using your device's microphone. Enable Bluetooth Audio controls whether the app is allowed to use a connected Bluetooth device, such as a hearing aid, as its audio input.
This setting is off by default.
What this feature does
When the setting is off, Live Transcribe ignores Bluetooth audio devices and uses your iPhone or iPad's built-in microphone as the input. When it is on, the app can use a connected Bluetooth device as its input instead.
Why it exists
When a hearing aid or other Bluetooth device is connected, iOS may automatically route microphone input through that device rather than through your iPhone or iPad. For captioning, that often isn't what you want: your device's own microphone is usually better positioned to pick up the person or sound you're trying to transcribe. Keeping this setting off prevents your hearing aids from being selected as the input automatically, so your iPhone or iPad stays the source.
Turn the setting on only if you specifically want Live Transcribe to listen through a Bluetooth device.
How to turn it on or off
- Open Live Transcribe.
- Tap Settings.
- Under Transcribe Controls, scroll down to Advanced.
- Toggle Enable Bluetooth Audio on or off.
Your choice takes effect right away, and the setting stays as you set it until you change it again.
